Dear Human Resources Podcast: How Can HR Managers Make a Measurable Difference in Gender Equity

Episode Overview

In this episode of the Dear Human Resources podcast, we sit down with host Dr. Marie-Line Germain who is a researcher and professor of Human Resources and Leadership at Western Carolina University. We tackle the big question of How HR Managers Can Make a Measurable Difference in Gender Equity, and get into the details like:

  • What is the number one trait that organizational leaders need to foster gender equity in the workplace? How can HR managers drive and grow that trait?

  • What are the biggest barriers for HR managers today who are trying to make progress in gender equity at their organizations? Have these shifted over time?

  • Why is knowledge about gender disparities in income, career progression, etc not enough to drive change? How can HR managers go beyond building understanding and drive empathy?

  • What are some common myths that employers assume about women in the workplace? And how can HR managers work to dispel them?

  • How can HR managers support all employees in bringing their whole selves and their best selves to their work?

RESOURCES

The Gender Inequity Simulator from Gild Collective puts participants in the shoes of a unique persona to better understand the varied experiences of diverse individuals in the workplace.

During the interactive program, participants will experience varied workplace scenarios: getting feedback from their manager, receiving or witnessing microaggressions, client meetings and performance reviews. In debriefing on the simulator, participants tie their experiences to broader workplace data and types of bias, creating a foundational understanding of unconscious bias and its impact.
