In February of 2020, we began another year of programming for Midwest Communications. Our session was titled “The Power of NO”. This session is all about the idea of prioritizing yourself, and becoming a better leader, professional, and woman because of it, by focusing on these objectives:

  • Understanding the value of both your personal and professional goals

  • Creating self-permission to prioritize your needs to achieve your big goals

  • Using "no" as a powerful tool to eliminate the things that drain and distract to make more room

Although for many of us, especially women, the idea of saying no (even when we are stretched thin or unable to help for whatever reason) makes us feel sick to our stomachs. Women are conditioned from a young age to be nurturers, and to tend to the needs of others before themselves. This becomes second nature to us, and leaves most of us feeling overworked, under appreciated, and fully burnt out if we do not keep our “yes’s” in check.

This session is powerful in helping participants to realize that there is inherent value in saying “no” more often, for whatever reason, and with little explanation where it is not required. While we were unable to continue the year of programming we had planned for Midwest Communications due to COVID-19 restrictions, we look forward to bringing this group together in the future.
